Marilyn Harding - November 2011
In the painting now in the Nano Gallery, “The Gooderham Building”, artist Tony Batten has distorted ‘reality’ of the stark city scape of Toronto to create an image of humanity bustling about within the parenthesis of warm terra cotta brick of the Victorian foundations of our modern city... Dilettante's Diary - November 2011
  Article by Patrick Donohue: dilettantesdiary.com
I recently found an oasis of calm and beauty on a blustery fall day, thanks to the art work of Tony Batten. This artist... could well be one of Canada’s most distinguished watercolourists. Dilettante's Diary - Notables of 2009 by Patrick Donohue:
At the end of the year, I like to think back and see if there were any paintings that really wow’d me. If there were, they should be sitting there in my memory, ready for easy recall. The only ones that had any such effect on me this past year were some entries in the Treasures 2009 show of the Canadian Society of Painters in Water Colour (Oct 22). Tony Batten’s gorgeous painting of the Scuola Grande di St. Rocco remains vividly in my mind as one of the best depictions of Venice that I’ll ever see... Link to page
